- Nearly 300 community members joined the CCV team for Green Up Day on May 30th. CCV and Green Up Vermont partnered on Green Up Day to each celebrate 50th anniversaries in 2020 and to green up CCV’s Vermont “campus.”
- Two CCV students were awarded 2020 New Century Pathway Scholarships from the Phi Theta Kappa honor society this spring. CCV-Bennington student Robin Avis is the New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar, receiving $1,250, while CCV-Brattleboro student Caitlin Senni is the New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar, receiving $2,250. Avis took courses at CCV before graduating from Vermont Tech with a nursing degree. Senni will transfer credits she has earned at CCV to Smith College.
- CCV-Bennington graduate Wendy Lyons was honored by the American Association of University Women scholarship committee as a congratulations on her 2020 graduation. The AAUW aims to progress equality and advance gender equity for women and girls in the areas of education, economics, and leadership. Lyons was a previous recipient of the scholarship.
- CCV-Winooski Early College student Saja Almogalli, a senior at South Burlington High School, was recognized in the Burlington Free Press for her determination and commitment to education amid the Coronavirus. After personal experience with her father in the hospital when she was younger, she knew that she wanted to help others by pursuing a career in healthcare. Now, COVID-19 has increased that desire and Almogalli is working toward becoming a doctor.
- CCV alum Sarah Sanchez, a legal assistant at a Vermont law firm, successfully passed the bar exam without going to law school. Sanchez earned an associate degree at CCV while working at the law firm and continued on to 4 years of reading law where she was mentored by a lawyer. Now, after 15 years as a legal assistant and passing the bar exam, she will be admitted to the Vermont Bar.
- CCV student Kevin Donley and his mother Luann found a way to give back to the community during the Coronavirus pandemic. Both dental assistants, their dental offices were closed due to COVID-19 and they chose to use this time to volunteer with the Essex Westford School District’s Child Nutrition Program. They worked 3 days a week to assemble free meals that were passed out to families daily.
- Former CCV faculty member and artist Carol MacDonald was featured in the Times Argus for her artwork. MacDonald created monoprints featuring images of knitting and birds, often left up to interpretation for various meanings. She has an exhibit, “Mending Fences,” at the Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh from June-October that features objects, monotype prints, and site-specific installations. This is one of many exhibitions she has held across the US and Canada.
- Early College student Lucas Messing has been named the valedictorian of his class at Twin Valley Middle High School. While making education a priority, Messing has also been involved in a student leadership group, completed countless community service hours, studied abroad in Spain, and competed on his high school soccer team. He plans to attend Gannon University in the fall, majoring in applied exercise science.
