Winooski coordinator of academic services Marianne DiMascio and associate dean of students Angie Albeck performed with their sketch comedy group at Burlington’s Off Center for Dramatic Arts in January. Stealing from Work: Sketch Victims Unit is the group’s seventh production. The show will also be performed at Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater in March, and at FlynnSpace in April. DiMascio and Albeck are co-writers and co-producers, and DiMascio is in the cast.
Students in Brattleboro took advantage of an accelerated medical assisting class that took place January 2 – 17, and eight students graduated from the College to Careers program, a partnership between CCV and BMH that prepares students for hospital jobs as medical assistants.
Bennington coordinator of academic services Kate Cooper joined the board of the Bennington Area Arts Council, which works to support cultural events, activities and organizations in the Bennington region.
Faculty member Jen Berger launched a new business, At the Root, at the end of January. She will offer art project management and consultation, event planning and creative fundraising services, and workshops and classes. Berger teaches in Winooski.
Five Bennington students were awarded scholarships for the spring semester from the Bennington branch of the American Association of University Women. Jennifer Davis, Tiffany McMahon, Cheree Stringham, Cassandra Furciniti, and Wendy Lyons received a combined $2,675 in scholarships from the AAUW, which has awarded nearly $43,000 to support women in the Bennington community since 2007.
The fall 2018 study abroad class, Ireland through Words, Images and Music, culminated in a ten-day tour of Ireland in early January. Highlights included visiting the Cliffs of Moher, Kilkenny Castle, Trinity College, and Dublin. 14 students participated, along with instructor Peter Keating and coordinator of academic services Amy Stuart.
Brattleboro faculty member Zachary Young took on a new role at the College as a coordinator of academic services. Young has been teaching online and on-ground classes, including Dimensions, philosophy, and comparative religion. He holds an MA in theological studies, a BA in religious studies, and an AS in recording engineering.
Montpelier coordinator of academic services Jenny Gundy performed in Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” at the Plainfield Opera House February 21st – 24th. Gundy starred as Nerissa, best friend of the play’s heroine.
Brattleboro student Sandy Sherman was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the Brattleboro Rotary Club Gateway Foundation on February 7th. The Jesse M. Corum IV scholarship honors a long-time Brattleboro Rotarian and provides support for students working toward a degree in medical assisting.
