- The fall issue of “Valley Parents” in the Valley News highlights ways to support? students through the college application and decision process. CCV is featured through student Savannah Sheehan’s story of overcoming the stigma of community college and choosing CCV as an affordable, local, and flexible option for a college education.
- CCV alumna Jamie Green was featured on a podcast related to the opioid crisis and how Hypertherm, a manufacturing company, has responded to and supported the needs of its workforce. Jamie is an environmental stewardship specialist at Hypertherm and spoke about her personal experience going through recovery while working there.
- Faculty member Katherine (Kate) Maynard published a poem, “The River Bridge,” which won second place in a literary contest sponsored by the journal KAKALAK in November and was recently nominated for a Pushcart Prize. A second poem, “Bucking Hamlet’s Stars” was published in the same journal, and her poem “Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee,” was published in Whale Road Review and nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
- CCV alumna Autumn Morse was the first Vermonter to receive the Jack Kent Cooke Transfer Scholarship, which supports community college students that are transitioning to a four-year school to earn a bachelor’s degree, awarding recipients up to $55,000 annually. Autumn earned her associate degree in health sciences at CCV and plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy at Suffolk University.
- CCV-Upper Valley took part in the Halloween trunk-or-treat festivities sponsored by the Hartford Recreation & Parks in White River Junction. Staff handed out candy and CCV swag to nearly 600 trick-or-treaters!
- CCV alumna Yana Walder received the 2022 Rising Stars recognition award from Vermont Business Magazine. Forty recipients all under the age of 40 were chosen, recognized for their involvement in their communities, commitment to business growth, and professional excellence. Yana is the director of marketing and lease administration and a licensed realtor at Lake Point Property Management.
- Faculty member Rebecca Majoya recently published a memoir with Rootstock Publishing in Montpelier. Titled Uncertain Fruit: A Memoir of Infertility, Loss, and Love, Rebecca and her partner share their experiences as they tried to adopt and expand their family.
- CCV’s PTK chapter completed an Honors in Action research project that focused on generational food insecurity and its impact on community college students. This project, “Feeding the Seventh Generation: Contextualizing and Addressing Intergenerational Food Insecurity,” was selected from among 400 entries to be included as one of 18 articles in the 2022 edition of Civic Scholar: Phi Theta Kappa Journal of Undergraduate Research.
- Faculty member David Tomasi has been recognized as a “Top 1% researcher” on academia.edu. Additionally, he has been included in the 45 i10-index on Google Scholar, which denotes the number of publications with at least 10 citations and is a gauge of scholar productivity.
