MONTPELIER, Vt. — After fewer than six months of negotiations, Community College of Vermont and the College’s newly formed faculty union have signed their first contract.

In October, CCV’s part-time faculty voted in favor of representation by the American Federation of Teachers union. Contract negotiations with CCV administration began in January, and the two parties reached a tentative agreement on June 11th.

“We are very pleased to have a contract that is fair for faculty, fair for students, and fair for the College,” said CCV president Joyce Judy. “We have always enjoyed a strong relationship with faculty, who are at the core of our mission to make higher education a reality for all Vermonters. We will continue to honor their voice as we go forward with our work.” Judy emphasized that the agreement represents the College’s commitment to progress, innovation, and service to Vermont students and communities.

Emily Casey, co-lead negotiator for CCV United Faculty, underscored the shared commitment made through the negotiation process. “Now that faculty at CCV have a seat at the table, we can ensure the commitment we have always made to our students and the institution will be honored through job security and pay commensurate with experience. This first contract is a solid step in the right direction to ensure a supportive work environment, which will have an immediate impact on our students’ learning environment. We see this agreement as an important step in the process of building a strong, collaborative relationship with the CCV administration.”
