CCV Receives VT Community Foundation Funding to Support Bennington County Youth

MONTPELIER, Vt. — Community College of Vermont (CCV) has received a $4,000 grant from the Vermont Community Foundation’s Opportunity Fund for Southshire Youth. The grant will support CCV’s Emerging Leaders Continuum, a project that aims to ensure successful transitions from high school to college.

With a primary focus on low income, first generation students, CCV will expand the already successful Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) for sophomores to engage a total of 50 Mount Anthony Union High School (MAUHS) juniors and seniors in workshops, retreats and coaching.

Jeannie Jenkins is a coordinator of academic services at CCV-Bennington, and has worked closely with the Emerging Leaders since the program’s inception. “We are very excited that the Vermont Community Foundation finds CCV’s work with students in the Emerging Leaders program valuable and is committed to helping us expand that work. The grant will allow us to work with Mount Anthony Union High School students from their sophomore year to their transition to college and other post-secondary opportunities.”

The Opportunity Fund for Southshire Youth was established at the Vermont Community Foundation in 2018 to support youth in Bennington, North Bennington, Pownal, Shaftsbury, and Woodford. The Fund will ensure an ongoing source of revenue for dynamic and innovative youth programs that play a vital role in attracting and keeping families in the Southshire.
