Reducing Barriers, Providing Opportunities

“CCV very clearly has a mission that’s geared toward being an affordable option for students to pursue their postsecondary goals,” said Ryan Dulude, CCV’s director of financial aid. In an effort to achieve this mission, and to help prepare Vermonters for the workforce, CCV and the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) are offering the 802 Opportunity Grant.

For Young Vermont Students, the McClure Free Degree Promise Is a Gift

We spoke with students who are enrolled in the Free Degree Promise, as well as current Early College students who plan to continue for their second free year. Each has their own unique story, but one theme resounds: the McClure Free Degree Promise is a gift, helping young students begin their adult lives on solid footing.

Delivering Success: From CCV to a Nursing Degree

“When I was in high school I wanted to do nursing, but it wasn’t cool, guys weren’t nurses [back then],” Scott said. “So I let peer pressure dictate what I did.” For 25 years he pursued a career in cooking before realizing that he was not satisfied by this line of work. It was during the process of becoming a father that his interest in nursing, specifically in labor and delivery, really peaked. “It kind of started a little fire, a little spark in me,” Scott said.

A former member of the Vermont house of representatives, current director of public affairs for a Vermont utility, and all-around champion of the Green Mountain State, Dylan Giambatista says “my work in Vermont is really about finding ways to bridge divides that are in our communities.”

On Veterans Day, A Story of Camaraderie

Wolf Whitney hopes to team up with Veterans Support Coordinator Erik Zetterstrom to strengthen the network of veteran and military students at CCV. “When you get out of the military you kind of feel like an outsider because you have all of these skills that no one else will ever understand,” she says.

Karen Geiger: A Legacy

Karen started working at CCV in 2007, just seven years after her graduation from the College. She worked in the operations department with Linda Lawrence, CCV’s current director of operations. “She was very passionate about the work that she did, and it didn’t matter what it was at the time, she dove headfirst into it,” Linda said.
